Varicose veins usually develop on the legs, either on the inside of your leg or the back of your calf.
Varicose veins are blue or dark purple in colour and commonly bulging and twisted in appearance. Varicose veins may cause pain and discomfort.
Symptoms of varicose veins can also include:
– swollen feet and ankles, muscle cramp in your legs
– aching, heavy and uncomfortable legs
– itchy and dry thin skin over the affected vein.
– Obesity, which increases the pressure on the legs
– Standing for long periods of time
– Pressure on the abdomen.
– Elevating the legs when resting and/or sleeping
– Losing weight/maintaining a healthy weight
– Avoiding excessive sun exposure
– Exercising leg strenghts
– Wearing compression pantyhose or stockings
