The Achilles, also known as the “heel cord,” is a tendon that runs down the back of the lower leg and connects the calf muscle to the heel bone. It also facilitates walking movement by helping to raise the heel off the ground. The Achilles tendonitis symptoms include:
Soreness, stiffness, and aching pain.
Achilles tendonitis is usually caused by a series of repetitive activities involving the Achilles tendon. These activities put extra stress on the tendons, thus resulting to micro-injury of the tendon fibers. Due to these continuous stress factors on the tendons, the body is unable to repair the injured tissues. The structure of the tendons is modified, resulting in ongoing pain.
Orthotics – changing the footwear and putting special inserts in the shoes, such as inserts to lift your heel.
Exercise to help stretch and strengthen your Achilles tendon.
